Black Panther 2 will pay its last respects to Chadwick Boseman.
People reports that Deadline spoke to Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige about what fans can expect from the upcoming film. Feige said that the film will focus more on the world of Wakanda, while being respectful to the memory of Boseman, who died last year from colon cancer.
“So much of the comics and that first movie is in the world of Wakanda,” said Feige. “Wakanda is a place to further explore with characters and different subcultures. This was always and initially the primary focus of the next story. We’re not going to have a CG Chadwick and we’re not recasting T’Challa.” The last statement reiterates prior statements Marvel and Feige have given about not replacing Boseman in the film series.
Feige said that Ryan Coogler, who wrote and directed first film, is currently rewriting the script “with all the respect and love and genius that he has, which gives us great solace.” He added that the plan for the Black Panther franchise was always about “furthering the mythology and inspiration of Wakanda,” but now there’s “also the task of honoring and respecting the ongoing learnings and teachings from Chad as well.”
Black Panther II is set for a July 8, 2022 release.
