Mississippi Valley State pauses football, postpones Saturday’s game at Jackson State

Mississippi Valley State’s season opener against Jackson State has been postponed due to a positive COVID-19 test, the Southwestern Athletic Conference announced Thursday.

The game has been rescheduled for Sunday, March 14.

All MVSU football activities have been paused and have resulted in the quarantining of student-athletes within the program.

“This action follows the guidelines and protocols set by the league and its COVID-19 Advisory Committee,” the league said in a statement.

Jackson State began its season last Sunday with a 53-0 win over NAIA member Edward Waters College, which also was the coaching debut of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.
