A colleague nicknamed Arkansas native Krystal Barker Buissereth “Grasshopper,” meaning “one who is learning,” after a character in the 70s TV show Kung Fu. “I entered Wall Street without a map to navigate in a highly competitive environment,” she says. Mentors, sponsors, and parental values guided her. “Wall Street was a long way from Arkansas, both in terms of miles and mindset. I knew I needed to be in a constant learning mode to succeed,” she remarks. “To this day, I live in constant learning mode, which I regard as amongst my greatest assets.”
A chartered financial analyst with an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in mathematics and economics from Bowdoin College, Buissereth is managing director and head of Financial Wellness at Morgan Stanley. She previously held digital strategy, investment, and advisory positions in the Investment Management Division at Goldman Sachs; global strategy and business development roles in asset and wealth management at Deutsche Bank; and was an analyst in the Global Debt Capital Markets Investment Banking Group at Barclays Capital/Lehman Brothers.
“It’s so important to me that financial wellness is not just a luxury that the wealthiest people can afford,” she says of her longstanding commitment to the financial wellbeing of individuals and organizations.
The daughter of a nurse, she describes financial wellness as “helping everyday people like nurses achieve their financial objectives with as little stress or setbacks as possible.” Not surprisingly, her greatest pride is building a business that delivers financial education and planning programs across all demographics, reducing the financial stress too many experience.
Buissereth is a New York Board Trustee of the Point Foundation that seeks to empower promising LGBTQ students through scholarships and leadership training. With enough time and money, the self-proclaimed ecotourist would set up affordable ecotourism lodges in far-flung places.
