XFL hosting HBCU Showcase at Jackson State

In preparation for the XFL’s revived 2023 season, the league is expected to host an HBCU showcase on July 16 at Jackson State.

HBCUs have had a big influence on the XFL’s revival with their first head coach hire being former Virginia State head football coach Reggie Barlow.

“Our invitational showcase locations, such as Jackson State, one of the largest HBCUs in the country, and our Hawai’i Showcase in Honolulu, are direct reflections of our XFL core values of diversity, inclusivity and accessibility,” said Dany Garcia, XFL chairman and owner.

This is one of six showcases the XFL has planned for this month including four open tryouts and two invite-only tryouts.

The HBCU Showcase is one of the two invitation-only workouts along with one at McKinley High School in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 25.

The open tryouts will take place at the University of Maryland, College Park on June 17, IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida on June 19, Arizona State University on July 22 and Choctaw Stadium in Arlington, Texas on July 24.

“The XFL is all about being at the intersection of dreams and opportunity. It is our goal to make football more accessible to more players, and our highly experienced team of coaches and personnel directors are ready to help make these professional football dreams come true” said XFL co-owner Dwayne Johnson.

The league has not released a date for its draft but its expected return date will come in February 2023.
