Longtime HBCU coach Henry Frazier III will be returning to the CIAA as the head coach at Virginia State.
He is the 26th head football coach in the history of the Trojans’ program.
“You have my word my promise that you will get my best every day,” Frazier said in his introductory press conference. “The staff that we bring in you will get their absolute best. All I ask is that you give me your best. Whatever your best maybe I want your best.”
Frazier is succeeding Reggie Barlow who resigned from the team after five seasons to become a coach in the XFL.

Virginia State is coming off a season in which they finished with a 3-6 record their second losing season in the past three years.
A Bowie State alum, Frazier’s coaching career began at his alma mater in 1990, serving as an assistant coach for three seasons.
He got his first head coaching position in 1994 at Central High School in Forestville, Maryland where he stayed until 1998.
Frazier was head coach of Bowie State from 1999-2004 leading the team to two CIAA championship appearances.
Then, in 2004, Frazier got his first job at a Division I program becoming the head coach of Prairie View A&M. He led the team to four winning seasons in seven years including a 2009 season in which they won the SWAC championship (its most recent to date).
His most time as a head coach was spent with North Carolina Central where coached for two seasons. From 2017-to 2020, Frazier was an assistant with Bowie State.
