HBCUnited advances to The Basketball Tournament regional final

HBCUnited’s Cinderella run in The Basketball Tournament continues after knocking off Rucker Park region No. 1 seed Young Game Changers (YGC) 66-59 Sunday night.

The YGC are now the first top seed in The Basketball Tournament to be eliminated.

HBCUnited dominated leading for the majority of the game, peaking with a 57-46 lead in the fourth quarter. Their work on the boards was the key to their success outrebounding YGC 53-34.

Hampton guard Malique Trent led the team scoring 16 points followed by former Hampton teammate Jermaine Marrow who scored 11 points off the bench.

With 3:30 remaining in the game, HBCUnited led 57-53 needing to get to 65 points to secure the victory.

One point away from victory, Norfolk State guard Devante Carter sealed the win for HBCUnited forcing a steal and then completing an uncontested dunk.

In the regional final, HBCUnited will look to come one step closer to the $1 million grand prize when they face the two-seeded Americana for Autism.
