Mississippi Valley State hires new head baseball coach

Mississippi Valley State has named CJ Bilbrey as its next baseball coach.

Bilbrey was a four-year player at Harris-Stowe State University from 2004-2007.

After his playing days, Bilbrey embarked on his coaching career at North Central Missouri College in 2008. He would then join the staff Maryville University from 2009-2012.

It was during his time at Maryville, the baseball program transitioned from Division III to DII and the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

After a season at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, Bilbrey returned to his alma mater for the 2014 and 2015 seasons before assuming the head coach role in 2016.

In his six seasons with the Hornets, Bilbrey complied a 110-123 record, including the highest single-season win percentage in program history with the 30-20 record. Β Bilbrey’s teams made postseason appearances in four of his six seasons.Β 

Bilbrey replaces Milton Barney who was fired after going 15-36 overall and 7-22 in the SWAC in his one season head coach.
