‘Dreaming Whilst Black’: Showtime Lands A24’s UK Series For The US

Paramount+ with Showtime is bringing A24 and Big Deal Films’ Dreaming Whilst Black to the masses.

Showtime has announced that it has acquired the U.S. rights to Dreaming Whilst Black, starring Adjani Salmon. The six-episode, 30-minute series will air two episodes weekly on Showtime on Sept. 10 at 10/9c. Days before, the series will premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime on Sept. 8.

The series is co-created and co-written by Salmon and is adapted from the web series and BBC pilot (also produced by Big Deal Films) of the same name. Salmon and the series earned tons of accolades for the project, including the 2022 BAFTA for Emerging Talent: Fiction and Screen International Star of Tomorrow.

The series is described as being loosely inspired by real events and follows Kwabena (Salmon), “an aspiring filmmaker stuck in a dead-end recruitment job who takes the first step to achieving his dream. However, he is quickly confronted with the tribulations of balancing finances, love and his own sense of reality.”

Starring alongside Salmon is Dani Moseley, Demmy Ladipo, Rachel Adedeji, Babirye Bukilwa, Alexander Owen and Wil Hislop.

Salmon, Yemi Oyefuwa and Ali Hughes are writing the series with Dhanny Joshi and Thomas Stogdon executive producing for Big Deal Films. Salmon also executive produces. Nicola Gregory produces. The series is directed by Jermain Julien, Koby Adom, Sebastian Thiel and Joelle Mae David.

The original web series was created by Salmon, Max Evans, Laura de Sousa Seixas and Natasha Jatania of 4 Quarters Films and co-written by Salmon and Hughes. The BBC version of the series aired this summer in the UK.
