*A$AP Rocky will stand trial on accusations that he fired a gun at A$AP Relli outside a Hollywood hotel in 2021.
The hip-hop star — real name Rakim Mayers — insists he’s innocent and pleaded not guilty in August 2022 to two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. As The Jasmine Brand reports, Judge Villar reportedly stated during a preliminary hearing on Nov. 20 that there is sufficient evidence for Rocky to go to trial.
We reported previously that Rocky is facing allegations of using a firearm during an altercation with former friend Terell Ephron, AKA A$AP Relli. He’s accused of allegedly pointing a semiautomatic handgun at the victim.
During a separate confrontation with Relli, Rocky allegedly drew the gun and fired twice in the direction of the victim, according to prosecutors. As a result of the shooting, the victim suffered a minor injury.
At the hearing this week, prosecutors reportedly played a video of A$AP Rocky holding a gun during a physical dispute with A$AP Relli, according to The Jasmine Brand.
In legal documents obtained by the PA news agency, lawyers for Relli said A$AP’s conduct had been “extreme and outrageous” and had caused their client to suffer “extreme emotional distress,” reports Independent.
“Defendant (Mayers) purposefully or with reckless disregard unlawfully brandished a firearm towards the plaintiff (Ephron),” the documents stated.
Rocky is charged with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. If convicted, he will face up to nine years behind bars.
