Langston basketball clinches another conference championship

For the second year in a row, the Langston Lions men’s basketball team is headed to the NAIA national tournament after clinching their second straight Sooner Athletic Conference title.

The Lions clinched the conference championship following a 70-65 win over Wayland Baptist, their fifth straight win overall.

With three games remaining in the regular season, Langston holds a 24-1 overall record and an 18-1 record against the SAC.

They are winning by an average of 25 points per game, including seven wins by a margin of more than 35 points.

Last season, in their first season under head coach Chris Wright, the Lions improved from a 1-27 record in 2022 to a 31-3 record, winning their first-ever conference championship.

They advanced to the NAIA national tournament for the first time since 2018, making it to the Sweet 16 before being eliminated by Georgetown (Ky.).
