Top FCS quarterback believed to have committed to Prairie View A&M goes elsewhere

Montana quarterback Clifton McDowell was believed to have committed to Prairie View A&M following reports of him being spotted at the team’s spring practice earlier this week.

However, the top FCS player has announced he will be playing elsewhere after committing to play for McNeese State for his final year of eligibility.

Coming off a season in which he led Montana to the FCS national championship game, this is McDowell’s second verbal commitment this offseason.

In January, McDowell verbally committed to Temple University and signing with the program in February. One month later, it was announced that he would re-enter the transfer portal.

The former Big Sky quarterback began his collegiate career in 2019 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette before moving on to Kilgore College and then Central Arkansas.

This is not the first time first time McDowell’s name has been heard in the HBCU realm. He previously committed to Southern last offseason before backing out to join Montana.
