The Pulse of Entertainment: Country Sensation Trey Calloway Releases ‘I Miss Country Music’ | LISTEN

Trey Calloway
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Trey Calloway releases new single ‘I Miss Country Music.’

*“It’s been a crazy ride…highs and lows,” said Trey Calloway about his Country music career that is currently promoting his new single “I Miss Country Music.” “I’ve sacrificed a lot. Its full of compromises, but you have to keep who you are.”

The very hot single “I Miss Country Music” is an example of his body of work that has a traditional country music sound laced with very uplifting party-flavored lyrics. When I delved further into who Trey is I saw that he is a preacher’s son, and so I asked about that mixture growing up.

“I was raised in a Pentecostal church with a certain stigma…but he showed me classic country music,” Calloway said about his father being the one who introduced him to Country music. “Our goal is…how to keep the soul (of traditional Country).”

The North Carolina native who is currently Nashville-based has that traditional Country sound that rocks with his lyrical stories. I told him his stories are spreading the Gospel in a modern way by using real-life issues to describe the messages in the body.  His Pentecostal roots are seen in his lyrics, such as his previous releases “Heal This Family,” “Worth a Shot,” or “One Tough Job.”

Trey Calloway is trailblazing. He won the Carolina Country Music Award, the Josie Music Award, and won Songwriter of the Year for “One Touch Job” from the Country Music Association. He had a recent music video appear on CMT. “I Miss Country Music” is the newest project release.

“I love singing about the Lord,” Trey told me. “I started singing in church…at revivals. I would sing…since age six! I started writing poems…then songwriting at 13. I came out (officially) in 2019, but I’ve been at it for a long time.”

Calloway, also a guitar player, has performed at such venues as the Charlotte Speed Street NASCAR Festival, the House of Blues, The Country and the Tennessee State Fair Opry Stage. Trey Calloway has upcoming shows on August 14, 2024 at Saxon Pub, and Nov. 8th at the Dosey Doe Whisky Bar. www.TreyCallowayMusic.com
