*Michael Rubin faced backlash after making strong remarks about hate within the Black community while defending Meek Mill during an interview on The Breakfast Club.
The billionaire entrepreneur later apologized on X (formerly Twitter) for his comments after he was contacted by someone he has “the most respect for in the world,” he shared.
“I got a phone call from one of the people I have the most respect for in the world,” Rubin wrote. “They told me while they appreciate my intention, it’s not my place to speak on Black culture. I get it and really appreciate the input!”
He added, “My intention was to say how important it is that we need to uplift each other, stop hate on each other, and push each other to win, and always root for each other’s success! My bad , Much love and appreciate the feedback.”

His apology came a day after passionately defending Meek Mill, who faced criticism for alleged homophobic behavior related to a viral 2021 video of him doing “bunny hops” after losing a tennis game to Rubin. The rapper later clarified in a tweet that “bunny hops” were part of a prison game.

During his appearance on The Breakfast Club, Rubin addressed the backlash Meek received over the video.
“When I see the narrative of, a really good friend of mine like Meek, and people are trying to… Again, if he was gay — which there’s not one gay bone in his body — who cares, number one,” he said. “If people wanna be gay, it is 2024. Who the f**k cares? Number two, there’s not a gay bone in his body, so why do people wanna lie about that? Why do people want to change the narrative of a bet he made with me to hurt him?”
Rubin continued. “That is the one thing I’ve learned about, you know, look, I’m just being blunt because it’s me,” he began. “It’s the one thing I’ve learned about Black culture that I don’t like is that Black hate on hate.”
During his rant, Rubin admitted … “I’m probably going to get killed for saying this because I’m a white rich guy.”
Meek issued a response to Rubin’s comments, writing on X, “Rubin shouldn’t be saying that type stuff out loud … a black man suppose to but nobody saying it… Its like we only collab on songs women and parties… he be hearing my friends getting murdered like why meek, I can’t explain it to him in a sensible way!”
As Complex reports, Charlamagne shared his thoughts on the matter during Friday episode of The Breakfast Club.
“Meek said ‘Michael shouldn’t have said that out loud.’ Michael said one of his friends called and said that wasn’t his place to say it, but guess what? None of those people said he lied because he didn’t,” he said.
“Now, I’m not in the broad generalizations because we know all Black people don’t hate each other. We know all Black people don’t tear each other down. But it does happen enough for him to make that observation, and it happens enough for us to have those conversations amongst each other,” Charlamagne explained.
He continued, “As I told him, if those are the conversations they are having in private, bring it to the forefront. We know what it is, we know why it is—white supremacy. And I would rather focus on what he said, which is ‘Let’s continue to push each other up.’ I’d rather focus on that.”
