*Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck after two years of marriage.
According to TMZ, the filing, done Tuesday in L.A. County Superior Court without an attorney, lists their separation date as April 26, 2024. Lopez and Affleck tied the knot in Las Vegas in 2022 at the famous Little White Wedding Chapel. The actress filed for divorce on August 20, coinciding with the second anniversary of their grand wedding celebration in Georgia.
As we reported earlier, Ben and Jen met in 2001 on the set of the romantic comedy “Gigli.” Affleck famously proposed to Lopez for the first time in 2002 with a pink diamond engagement ring. The pair postponed their nuptials days before the wedding in 2003 amid the media frenzy. They officially called it quits in January 2004 and rekindled their romance in April 2022 after Lopez broke up with Alex Rodriguez.
Lopez and Affleck did not have a prenuptial agreement, meaning their earnings during the marriage are considered community property, according to TMZ.
RadarOnline reports that Affleck, 52, ended the marriage to safeguard his sobriety. According to sources, he felt that Lopez’s glamorous lifestyle was threatening his recovery, prompting his decision to separate from the 55-year-old superstar. One source said, “The marriage was incredibly overwhelming – J.Lo lives a very glam lifestyle, and he was often faced with temptation.”
Affleck has battled addiction for many years and has undergone several rehab programs. According to the insider, he was “risking his sobriety in that environment” and so he “had to leave to avoid his worst nightmare – a relapse.”
Page Six reports that Ben was never a favorite within Lopez’s inner circle, including her longtime manager Benny Medina.
“The two of them can’t stand each other. They don’t get along and there’s still bad blood,” a source told the outlet.
Affleck allegedly delayed filing for divorce to avoid causing Lopez further embarrassment.
“She’s furious. He has humiliated her. He was the one who initiated getting back together,” an insider told Page Six.
“She’s very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn’t given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage,” an insider close to Lopez told PEOPLE, adding that she was “done waiting.”
