According to People, Mariah’s mom, Patricia, and sister, Alison, tragically passed away on the same day this past weekend. The celebrity publication confirmed the news on August 26, leaving fans and fellow celebrities shaken and sending prayers her way.
Mariah Carey asks for privacy regarding the recent passing of her sister and mother.
In a heart-wrenching statement released to the press, Mariah said, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
Mariah continued sharing that she felt grateful to have spent the last week with her mom before her passing. Mariah also asked for privacy during this “impossible time.”

Mariah’s shocking news hits especially hard for fans of the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” singer. In her 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” she was open about her emotional struggles growing up.
Raised mainly by her mom Patricia, Mariah described their relationship as filled with “so much pain and confusion.” She also recalled her mom being emotionally distant, which left her feeling unsupported during her childhood.
Her relationship with her sister Alison was just as difficult. In fact, Mariah shared a shocking moment when Alison threw boiling tea on her.
Despite the hurt, however, Mariah dedicated part of her memoir to her mom, writing, “And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could. I will love you the best I can, always.”
She also dedicated a birthday Instagram post to her mother in 2019, calling her a “true diva.”
Patricia and Alison’s passing has sparked an outpouring of sympathy and love online. On Twitter/X, one fan wrote, “Lord 
Someone check on her cause that’s crazy.” Another posted, “Omg Mariah, I’m so sorry, regardless of the strained relationship. This has to hurt. Sending prayers and love 
.”
