*On a high-tension Tuesday night CNN panel, the friction sparked as Republican strategist Scott Jennings vehemently reacted to fellow panelist Bakari Sellers‘ assertion that Vice President Kamala Harris‘ campaign was “organic.”

The backdrop of the debate was set by a significant recent shift in the Democratic political landscape. Vice President Kamala Harris had accepted the Democratic nomination to replace President Joe Biden, who had announced the cessation of his reelection bid over a month ago. This pivotal decision saw Harris poised to lead the Democratic charge.

In a segment that quickly escalated in intensity, Sellers, an ex-Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor in South Carolina, praised Harris’s campaign, calling it “organic.”

This description struck a discordant note with Jennings, according to Daily Caller.

“What?! Organic?!” Jennings exclaimed in disbelief. “This is the literal most manufactured presidential campaign ever. She didn’t even run! It’s the opposite of organic.”

The visible tension underscored the divides within political commentary on Harris’s campaign. Jennings’s skepticism seemed rooted in disbelief about the genuine grassroots nature of Harris’s support, sparked even further by her maintained 1.7% lead over former President Donald Trump in a RealClearPolling average of August surveys.

Sellers didn’t back down, countering Jennings’ incredulity with his own calculated rhetoric.

“Can I ask you one question? You’ve been a part of a lot of campaigns, right? A ton of campaigns. How many campaigns in your manufacturing have you been able to manufacture 400,000 volunteers or $540 million? Or how about this, 4% of the electorate, 4% of the entire electorate in the state of Georgia has volunteered for Kamala Harris,” Sellers emphasized.

Persistent in his skepticism, Jennings retorted sharply, “If you believe that, I’ve got properties I’ll sell you.”

The debate provides a compelling snapshot of the current political climate in which authenticity and grassroots support are hotly contested topics, especially in high-stakes presidential campaigns.

Adding to the political landscape, the unexpected dynamics continue to unfold. Notably, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. suspended his own presidential campaign last Friday, making headlines with his endorsement of former President Donald Trump during a rally in Arizona. This endorsement has further complicated the political equation, as both Democrats and Republicans brace for an atypical and fiercely competitive election cycle.

Harris’s acceptance of the nomination and her campaign’s perceived authenticity will remain focal points of discussion and debate as the election progresses. What remains clear is that the narrative around Harris’s campaign—whether seen as genuinely grassroots or carefully orchestrated—will be pivotal in shaping voter perception and ultimately, the election results.

As the campaign trail heats up, the engagement of the electorate and the authenticity of candidate support will likely continue to be points of contention and crucial elements in the quest for the presidency.
