*The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) returns to midtown New York to present the highly anticipated third edition of AAFCA Goes to Broadway, an annual luncheon celebrating the incredible intersection between stage, television, and film.
This year’s event will take place on October 14, 2024, at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, located in the heart of New York City’s Theater District.
Honoring the vibrant synergy between the stage and Hollywood, AAFCA Goes to Broadway spotlights Black talent and their journey across the entertainment spectrum – Broadway, television, and film.
The 2024 event will bestow honors to a lineup of exceptional talent who underscore Broadway’s invaluable contributions as a training ground and pipeline for the entertainment industry.
“Broadway has helped shape some of the most profound voices in entertainment today,” says Gil Robertson IV, President and Co-Founder of AAFCA. “The stage provides a perfect breeding ground, helping performers and creatives alike excel in their craft—whether in front of the audience or behind the scenes. AAFCA is proud to shine a light on the rich heritage Broadway offers to the entire entertainment industry.”
Honorees for the Third Annual AAFCA Goes to Broadway Luncheon include:
- Distinguished Actor Award: John Earl Jelks is generating Oscar buzz for his co-starring role in the upcoming film, Exhibiting Forgiveness. The veteran actor will be recognized for his remarkable decades-long commitment to the stage.
- Beacon Award: Tony Award-winning actor James Monroe Iglehart will be honored with the Beacon Award for his versatility and magnetic performances in theater and television.
- Hidden Figures: Black Women of Broadway: Choreographer Camille A. Brown and hair designer, Nikiya Mathis will receive AAFCA Goes to Broadway’s “Salute to Excellence Award” for their ongoing dedication to advancing Black women’s presence on Broadway.
- Vanguard Award: Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, the Tony Award-winning playwright known for his provocative and innovative work, will receive the Vanguard Award for his contributions to modern theater.
