*The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander 4WD Limited was a surprise! It’s a big SUV and delivers comfort, space, storage and adaptability. Don’t mistake this vehicle for the Toyota Highlander because they’re two different vehicles and the Grand is serving up more space and a bigger body.
Let’s get into it.
The Look + Comfort: The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander 4WD Limited isn’t flashy or giving you remarkable curb appeal.
It’s your versatile SUV with classic curves and a longer and wider body than the Toyota Highlander.
Its wide and long grill gives it a masculine look and feel and sports a black-rimmed base all around to break up the uniformity.
Inside is where all the glamour and fun of the vehicle reside. Every seat in the cabin is shrouded in leather, designed with plush comfort and customizable features.
I sat in every row, including the third, and am happy to report it was comfortable all the way around. The most noteworthy aspect of their row is that there’s a decent amount of leg room and my knees didn’t even touch the back of the seat in front of me.
Plus passengers have the option to recline the row to improve comfort. Plus, the second-row seats are adjustable to make more space for third-row passengers.
Throughout the cabin, passengers can charge up with plenty of USB-C ports all around. I love the panoramic sunroof which brightened up the cabin on a sunny day and made the cabin feel even more spacious.
With a big vehicle like this, there’s got to be plenty of storage space, right? Yes! cup holders and a deep center console make it easy for everyone to enjoy the ride. And for all the Stanley Cup girlies, you’ll enjoy a deep cupholder up front.
The second row, made up of two seats, features a low, removable center console, a unique feature. It includes cupholders and slots for devices or other items. I assume this piece is removable to allow for passengers headed to the third row, to reach their seats with ease. I think this feature is thoughtful but inconveniently placed. I think an improvement would mean putting the cupholders on the doors and adding a bit of extra storage behind the front center console to keep the center space free for passenger traffic.
The Drive: This big-bodied 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander 4WD Limited is a smooth ride, and handles the road with ease, but lacks that get-up-and-go energy. It’s got a 2.5L four-cylinder engine which I think is too small for the size and weight of the car. I didn’t experience the power I hoped for on the highway. But some great redeeming qualities include six drive modes including snow, mud & sand, and rock & dirt.
Technology & Safety: One thing Toyota always gets right, in my opinion, is the wireless Apple CarPlay feature. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: wireless Apple CarPlay should be standard in all vehicles. And Toyota makes it clear that this feature can be a part of any car and at an affordable rate.
Besides these fabulous features, the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander 4WD Limited comes standard with all the greatest safety features to ensure the drive is easy. Automatic braking was well-timed. I find that in many vehicles, this feature tends to be a bit overbearing and a bit startling. The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander 4WD Limited does it right, the feature serving as a partner rather than an overriding element. I still felt very much in control.
Overall, the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander 4WD Limited is a versatile SUV, giving drivers and passengers lots of options, storage, and comfort. With a large third-row seat and cargo options galore, it is a great, affordable buy. Toyota also offers hybrid options to help with gas and power!
