*Chattanooga, Tennessee-based investigators are sifting through details involving a 27-year-old woman who allegedly shot her younger sister in the back and left her dead on a couch before taking a Lyft to a Publix supermarket and calling 911.
Law & Crime cites media sources at local NBC affiliate WRCB, who report the woman, identified by authorities as Brittni Harmon Moore but listed in jail and court records under the name Brittani Nicole Harmon, has been charged with murder.
The investigation into the situation, which is being conducted by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, started Oct. 10 after Moore called 911 Publix to allege a murder was committed at a home located on a cul-de-sac at the end of Thrush Hollow Lane.
According to WRCB, Moore allegedly tried to pass herself off as the pregnant girlfriend of Moore’s husband. The outlet mentioned the victim, identified in some places as 25-year-old Brianna Harmon and in others as Breanna, was found fatally shot on a couch at home after the 911 call was made.
Moore reportedly claimed she was asleep on the couch with the victim before seeing her sister get up to use her phone that morning. Translation: Moore allegedly stated her sister Breanna was still alive at home before she went to Publix.
When the shooting happened, Moore was allegedly caught on a neighbor’s Ring camera at the crime scene. The action was captured on Publix surveillance video, which revealed the fault in Moore’s claim of being her husband’s pregnant girlfriend and calling from a Fast Access Healthcare clinic. Combined with GPS evidence tracing the call to the store, the Publix video proves otherwise on the claim.
Commenting on the case, the sheriff’s office initially said it was “conducting a death investigation” and, since a suspect was already detained, there was “no” broader “threat to the community. An update later revealed deputies ID’d their suspect, calling the shooting an “isolated incident.”
Moore’s situation with Breanna isn’t the first time she has been on the law enforcement radar. Law & Crime touched on the suspect’s past cases which date back to 20017, 2018, 2020, 2022, and the start of 2024 — whether for theft, aggravated arson, improper use of 911, or making false reports.
Moore, who may or may not have a defense lawyer, is scheduled to be in court on Oct. 21 She faces allegations of first-degree murder. If convicted she faces death or life in prison with or without parole.
