*Brian Steel, Young Thug’s attorney, arranged for the rapper to speak with law students, and he urged them to pursue careers as defense attorneys.

In a video shared online, the 33-year-old artist joined a FaceTime call with students at Emory Law School in Atlanta on Wednesday and he described defense law as a form of “God’s work.”

“We had a situation that was daunting towards my life and I think that the justice system could be bad. You know, sometimes it could be bad, and you gotta always look at it, like, they’re there to put us in prison and you guys are here to keep us from prison,” the hip-hop star said on the call, Complex reports. 

Young Thug added, “I think you guys should become lawyers. I think it’s very important to help people out of the situations they’re in the best best you can. I mean, what side do you wanna be on? You wanna put people in prison for mistakes? Because everybody makes mistakes, we’re human. And everybody in this classroom, you always need to know that you want one mistake away.”

We reported earlier via CNN that Thug, born Jeffrey Williams, was sentenced to time served on Oct. 31 as part of a sweeping case that originally included dozens of defendants. He was released on Halloween after more than 900 days in custody, according to jail records. He will have to serve 15 years on probation as part of the non-negotiated plea agreement.

In 2022, Young Thug was charged under Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act — known as RICO. His non-negotiated guilty plea deal is related to several charges, as CNN reports, “including firearm possession and participation in criminal street gang activity, while he pleaded no contest to racketeering and leading a criminal street gang. The case marked the longest in Georgia’s history,” the outlet writes. 

“I am a smart guy. I am a good guy. I really got a good heart,” Young Thug told the judge during his release hearing last month. “I find myself in a lot of stuff, because I was just nice or cool, you know, and I understand that you can’t be that way when you reach a certain height because it could end (badly).”
