*Hip-hop star T.I. sits down with fellow rapper Fat Joe on the November 15th episode of the STARZ interview series “Fat Joe Talks,” at his new club “Trap City Cafe” in Atlanta, to discuss the history and impact of trap music, his lasting legacy on the industry, his new comedy venture, the news release states.

T.I. also revealed what’s next in his acting career, including filming the sequel to “Da ‘Partments,” a film which he directed, wrote, and starred in, as well as a new project called “Situationships.” Additionally, T.I. opens up about his venture into the comedy and stand-up set at his new Atlanta club, “Trap City Cafe.”

Per the news release: “Fat Joe Talks” is hosted and executive produced by the multi-hyphenate Grammy award-nominated artist and cultural icon Fat Joe. In each weekly 30-minute episode, Fat Joe will bring the audience along for intimate conversations and never-told-before stories with some of America’s favorite celebrities and newsmakers who drive the cultural zeitgeist. Fat Joe will engage with his guests in ways that allow them to open up like never before.

Below are excerpts from Fat Joe’s conversation with T.I.

In the clip below, T.I. talks about his relationship with Young Thug.

On trap music’s lasting cultural impact:

Fat Joe: “Everybody comes to town. They come check you out. They know what’s popping here, and you’re showing them the history of trap music. Why was that so important to you?”

T.I.: “Because of the importance of trap music. How many people it represents, how many people it speaks for, how many people it helps heal. You know what I mean? I’m a true believer of, if we don’t begin to tell our stories first, they’re going to tell them for us.”

Fat Joe: “I feel the same way. I was seeing a lot of things coming out about hip hop music that was just inaccurate, like, almost ludicrous, almost crazy. I’m looking at it and I’m like, ‘You know what? I’d rather ask Snoop Dogg, I’d rather ask T.I. himself.’ We get it on tape and for years to come, 20 to 30 years down the line, they’ll know where to look to. So it’s safe to say, you’re the OG out here now. You’re one of the OG’s.”

T.I.: “I mean, to be honest with you, bro, I’m a product of the community. I stand on the shoulders of giants. You feel me? I like to say that Kilo Ali and Sammy Sam crawled so OutKast and Goodie Mob could walk, so me, Jeezy, Ludacris could run, so Young Thug, 21 Savage, Migos, and Lil Baby could fly. You feel me? So everybody’s been passing the torch on to the next generation.”

Fat Joe: “That’s the beauty of the whole ATL.”

T.I. reflects on the creation of ‘Swagga Like Us’:

T.I.: “The guns are fake, the Grammy is real.”

Fat Joe: “That’s a real Grammy?”

T.I.: “Yeah, it’s a real Grammy. We won for ‘Swagga Like Us’ in 2008.”

Fat Joe: “Tell me about that song. How did that go? Was everybody together in the studio?”

T.I.: “No, no, we weren’t together. To my knowledge, how I knew it, I was first. Because Gee Roberson gave me a beat, that Kanye produced that had the MIA sample. He got it to me with Kanye on the hook. And then he said, ‘You know what to be dope? If I can get Wayne and Hov on here too.’ I said, ‘man get the f**k out of here.’”

Fat Joe: “At one time it was a misconception that you and Wayne was like battling for a spot, or you guys wouldn’t work together, but I know we got you on the Khaled record too.”

T.I.: “Man, we got many records together. Many. We got many records together. And I think that, I mean, some people talk because they got lips. You know what I’m saying?”

Fat Joe: “No it’s competition, but it’s friendly competition.”

T.I.: “And it’s respect there. The toughest fight you had, regardless of who it was you fought, you left there with a respect for that person.”

Fat Joe: “That’s right. That’s what it’s all about.”

T.I.:“It got to be that.”

Fat Joe: “Have to.”

On his upcoming projects and the start of his new comedy venture:

Fat Joe: “So what’s next for T.I.P?”

T.I.: “Well, filming ‘Da ‘Partments’ two. Sequel to the first film. I’m about to film my second franchise, I guess you could call it, as a writer and director. It’s called ‘Situationships’. I also star in this one, which is something I haven’t done. I haven’t directed and starred at the same time.”

Fat Joe: “Directed, wrote it, filmed it. Now you’re gonna act in it?”

T.I.: “Yeah. Me, Terrence J, D.C. Young Fly, Gail Bean, and Karrueche. We gonna do our thing.”

Fat Joe: “D.C. Young Fly, him and the boys, Chico Bean.”

T.I.: “Yeah. 85 South. I followed him. Man, I love them. I love them to death. I’ve seen where they come from. They’re so genuine. I’ve seen how far they’ve taken it with a dream and some hard work. The evolution has been crazy.”

Fat Joe: “Yeah, I love that.”

T.I.: “I’ve always had friends in comedy. I’ve always had a respect and an admiration for the craft. The Haha Mafia is a coalition of comedians that I put together. Man, they’ve been helping me get better as a comedian.”

Fat Joe: “Artist development again.”

T.I.: “Yes.”

Fat Joe: “It’s different timing. It’s a different thing. It’s a whole different, it’s a new feel for you. A new challenge.”

T.I.: “Yeah, it’s so beautiful to be able to come in and build something from the bottom again. Those are the moments in life that they contribute to who we are as human beings. I feel like comedy is something that I was able to meet at a point in my life where I was humble enough, conscious enough, and confident enough to share a part of myself.”

Fat Joe: “T.I. never lacked confidence.”

“Fat Joe Talks” airs Fridays at midnight on the STARZ app and debuts on STARZ linear at 9:00 PM ET/PT in the U.S.
