Alfred Jackson, Prince’s Half-Brother, Dead at 66

Alfred Jackson, the oldest of Prince’s six surviving siblings, has died.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that Jackson passed away in his home in Kansas City, Missouri. The cause of death is unknown. He was 66.

“Hi…this morning my older beloved brother Alfred passed on,” Prince’s sister Tyka Nelson posted on Facebook via the Star Tribune. “Thank u for respecting our privacy at this time & 4 being so nice 2 him.”

Jackson was the son of Mattie Baker, Prince’s mother, prior to her marriage to Prince’s father, John L. Nelson.

When the “Purple Rain” singer died in April 2016, he did not leave a will nor any known children. So the musician’s estate affairs were split between Tyka, and Prince’s half-siblings Jackson, Sharon Nelson, Norrine Nelson, John Nelson, and Omar Baker.

Prince’s estate is still tied up in legal proceedings and had not been officially valued as of the three year anniversary of his death this past April, USA Today reports.

Despite the legal matters, the estate continues to reissue music from the late singer’s vault and an upcoming memoir.

Variety reported on plans to release previously unavailable albums Chaos and Disorder, Emancipation, and rare cassette-only album Versace Experience (Prelude 2 Gold) on September 15.

Random House also confirmed that “The Beautiful Ones,” a memoir the musical genius was working on at the time of his death in 2016, will be released October 29.
