John Legend Drops New Single ‘Actions’

John Legend is using his music to heal.

After entertaining fans from his home amid the coronavirus quarantine, the EGOT winner keeps the music coming with his new single “Actions.” The poetic love song, which he co-wrote with Cautious Clay, serves as a call-to-action and features a sample of David McCallum’s “The Edge,” which Dr. Dre famously sampled on “The Next Episode.”

“Actions speak louder, speak louder than, speaker louder than love songs,” sings PEOPLE’s “Sexiest Man Alive.” “And melodies they carry on.”

Earlier this week, Legend hosted his “Together, At Home” concert on Instagram Live, where he previewed “Actions” and performed his hits as well as covers. A remix with YBN Cordae is rumored to follow.

He plans to release a new album, his first since 2016’s Darkness and Light, this year. “Everybody’s home. You need stuff, you need music, you need TV, you need films, you need films to entertain you. So I am going to put some music out, OK?” said Legend.
