Saint Augustine’s releases 2020 football schedule

RALEIGH, N.C. – Five home games, including the Raleigh Classic, highlight the 2020 Saint Augustine’s University football schedule, which was released Monday.

This is the most home games since 2017 for the Falcons, who enter a new era under first-year Head Coach David Bowser.

“I like our schedule,” Bowser said. “Our fans can watch us play multiple times during the season. The non-conference games should prepare us for a challenging CIAA schedule. I look forward to the support of the fans when we play three of our first four games at home.”

The Falcons open their 10-game schedule with two consecutive home games for the first time since 2012. They host Lenoir-Rhyne University in the season opener on Sept. 5 and Limestone College on Sept. 12. SAU and Lenoir-Rhyne square off for the second time ever, and the meeting between the Falcons and Limestone is the first for both teams. Lenoir-Rhyne, nationally-ranked last year, is coming off an NCAA Division II quarterfinal playoff appearance and a one-loss season.

The remaining home games are against CIAA opponents. SAU takes on Chowan University on Sept. 26, Fayetteville State University on Oct. 24 and crosstown rival Shaw University on Nov. 7. The Fayetteville State game is on Homecoming Day, and the Shaw game is designated as the Raleigh Classic and Senior Day.

All home games are at the George Williams Athletic Complex.

SAU hits the road five times during the season, including a non-conference matchup against Division I Delaware State University on Sept. 19. Delaware State is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Delaware State and SAU have met 17 times, but this is the first matchup since 1964 when Delaware State was in the CIAA.

The remaining road games are against CIAA teams. The Falcons tangle against Virginia State University on Oct. 3, Livingstone College on Oct. 10, Winston-Salem State University on Oct. 17 and Johnson C. Smith University on Oct. 31.
