During his emotional performance at the memorial service for George Floyd, Ne-Yo made a statement that has sparked controversy.
“50 states are protesting at the same time, this man changed the world. I just want to thank George Floyd for the sacrifice so my kids can be alright. I appreciate the sacrifice, I really do.”
These were the words spoken by the singer-songwriter while on stage during the program. After his remarks, the father-of-four struggled to hold back tears as he performed an acapella version of “How Do I Say Goodbye” at the June 9th service.
Despite the moving performance, many viewers could not get past Ne-yo’s use of the word “sacrifice” and thought it was of poor taste.

I want y’all to stick with your talents and shut up about everything else.
