Trump Responds to Kanye West’s Presidential Bid

Kanye West announced his plans to run for president against Donald Trump, but the president has remained quiet on Kanye’s presidential bid until now.

During an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity (via The Hill), Trump opened up about Kanye’s proposed 2020 run and his subsequent comments that he no longer supports the president.

“Well, I like his voice being heard, but he’s always going to be for us, and his wife is going to be for us,” Trump said Thursday, referring to West and his wife Kim Kardashian West.

In his Forbes interview, Kanye renounced Trump and said he was “taking the red hat off,” referring to Trump’s signature red “Make America Great Again” campaign hats. “It looks like one big mess to me,” he said of Trump’s presidency. “I don’t like that I caught wind that he hid in the bunker.”

Despite his comments, Trump still thinks Kanye will support him in his reelection bid. “He’s a very good guy. He is a person that I get along with very well,” said Trump. “At the end I think he would support us over anyone else. But if he does or not, we have to stop the radical left from taking over our country, ripping down our great heroes.”

West announced on the Fourth of July that he would be running for president in November’s election, despite having missed the filing deadline to get on the ballot in multiple states.

“I would run as a Republican if Trump wasn’t there. I will run as an independent if Trump is there,” said West, who called his party the “Birthday Party.” “Because when we win, it’s everybody’s birthday.”

He also slammed presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden. “I’m not saying Trump’s in my way, he may be a part of my way. And Joe Biden? Like come on man, please. You know? Obama’s special. Trump’s special. We say Kanye West is special. America needs special people that lead. Bill Clinton? Special. Joe Biden’s not special.”
