After news surfaced early Monday regarding the dismissal of John Hendrick as head football coach at Jackson State, Football Scoop reported that NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders was to be a candidate for the vacancy.
However, Trey Mongrue of WLBT in Jackson, Mississippi, dismissed that report Monday indicating that Sanders is not a candidate for the position.

“While there was contact between Deion and #JSU when Trinity Christian came to play MRA last week, I am told that Sanders is not a candidate for the Tigers’ head coaching position,” Mongrue said in a tweet.
While Sanders may not be a candidate for the position at J-State, it appears he does have goals to become a head coach at the college level.
The Pro and College Football Hall of Famer has been steadfast in pursuing his goal to become a college head coach, sooner rather than later.
“I’m going to be a head coach in college football next year,” he said in a live appearance on Dan Patrick’s radio show at the Super Bowl in January. “I’m that definite. I’m that assured that I am.”
“This is something that is my calling,” he said later in the interview. “I’m going to coach college football. Head coach, not coach. Head coach.”
Sanders is currently the offensive coordinator coach at Trinity Christian High School in Desoto, Texas where his son, Shedeur, is the starting quarterback and a Florida Atlantic commit.
