Adolfo Quiñones, the choreographer and dancer known as “Shabba Doo,” died Wednesday at the age of 65. Quiñones played Ozone in the Breakin’ franchise, cementing his cult icon status.
Quiñones died in Los Angeles, but his cause of death is currently unknown.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Quiñones started his career in dance when he co-founded The Lockers, a dance group that also included dancer/choreographer/”Mickey” singer Toni Basil and What’s Happening!! star Fred Berry, aka Rerun. The group appeared on a 1975 episode of Saturday Night Live. He also became a part of Soul Train’s lineup of dancers and worked with the likes of Madonna, Bette Midler, Luther Vandross, Lionel Richie and Three 6 Mafia.
Aside from the Breakin’ films of the ’80s, Quiñones also co-wrote and directed Rave, Dancing to a Different Beat and wrote and directed documentary The Kings of Crenshaw. The documentary is based on his 2017 memoir.
