Alabama State baseball coach being sought by ASUN conference school

Jose Vazquez is one of HBCU Baseball most well-known head coach. According to sources, Vazquez will interview for the vacant Jacksonville State head coaching job. His extensive background would make him a terrific hire.

Vazquez is a veteran coach with experience at all levels of baseball. Before becoming the Alabama State head coach in 2016, he was an assistant with the Hornets and held the same position at Bethune Cookman.

This past season, Vazquez led the program to a school record of 41 wins overall and a 26-4 mark in the SWAC. His squad was the first SWAC school to win 40 games since the 2003 season.

Vazquez is a two-time HBCU Baseball Black College Nines’ Coach of the Year which includes this past season. He also won two HBCU Baseball national titles and a SWAC championship at Alabama State.

Coach Vazquez collected his 200th career win against Prairie View A&M on May 24th in the SWAC Tournament, finishing the season with 201 career wins.
