*In an exclusive conversation with actress Amber Shana Williams, who portrays Tamar in the hit series “The Chosen” from Angel Studios, we explored her character’s journey over the past four seasons as fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming fifth season.
Set in the 1st century in Judaea and Galilee, the series chronicles the life of Jesus (Jonathan Roumie) and the diverse individuals who crossed his path, including Tamar. Amber teased exciting details about how Tamar’s story will unfold in the new season, offering a unique perspective that deepens the series’ portrayal of faith and redemption.
Season 5 was reportedly filmed in Texas and Goshen, Utah, and Movie Guide reports that it will follow Holy Week, while Season 6 will end with the crucifixion.
“This is when the plot thickens, and Lazarus will be hiding at this point because of what’s happened in Season 4,” director Dallas Jenkins explained to the Deseret News.
“We are covering in Season 5 the most important week in history. Season 6 is the most important day in history,” he continued.
“Season 6 ain’t gonna end well. It’s the saddest moment in the history of the human race,” Jenkins added.
The producers of “The Chosen” rely on crowdfunding to fund the series, which has become the most successful crowdfunded TV or film project in history. The show is streamed for free through its dedicated app, utilizing a pay-it-forward system where viewers can donate to help keep the content accessible to others.
The Desert News reports that over 100,000 supporters from 151 countries contributed to fully funding Season 5 of “The Chosen,” according to the Come and See Foundation. The donations have made the continuation of the historical drama series possible.
“The extraordinary generosity we witness daily is inspiring because it enables us to continue making the authentic Jesus known to the world one episode at a time,” Stan Jantz, CEO of the foundation, said in a release.
“At Come and See, our goal is to present the greatest story of the greatest person to the greatest number of people in a language they know best. The momentum we’re seeing behind this movement is like no other as the world responds to the story of Jesus through ‘The Chosen,’” said Jantz.
“The only reason I’m able to focus on show running ‘The Chosen’ is because viewers continue to give to Come and See,” said the show’s creator, Dallas Jenkins. “And even more beautiful is the impact the show is having all over the world because of Come and See’s work in keeping the show free and translating it into so many languages.”
No official release date for Season 5 has been announced, but new episodes are expected to drop in early 2025.
