While the coronavirus crisis continues to impact life around the world, Ariana Grande is speaking out.
The “thank u, next” singer has taken to social media with a PSA urging her millions of followers to take caution. She stressed the severity of the pandemic, which has already infected over 150,000 people and killed another 6,400 worldwide, and been declared a national emergency by President Trump.
“i keep hearing from a surprising amount of people statements like ‘this isn’t a big deal’ / ‘we’ll be fine’… ‘we still have to go about our lives’ and it’s really blowing my mind,” wrote Grande. “i understand if that is how u felt weeks ago. but please read about what’s going on. please don’t turn a blind eye.”
While some people have been practicing social distancing, with work and school canceled, many continue to go about their daily lives, possibly contributing to the spread of COVID-19. Grande warned her young followers of the potential dangerous consequences.
“it is incredibly dangerous and selfish to take this situation that lightly. the ‘we will be fine because we’re young’ mindset is putting people who aren’t young and / or healthy in a lot of danger. you sound stupid and privileged and you need to care more about others. like now,” she added.
