According to All Hip Hop, the Barry White Family Trust, led by his widow Glodean B. White and Jack W. Perry, filed a lawsuit against Rodney-O and Joe Cooley, claiming that the hit song “Like That” by Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar illegally samples White’s famous 1973 song “I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little More, Babe.” The lawsuit asserts that the bassline in “Like That” is directly taken from White’s original work.

The estate claims “Like That” samples Rodney-O and Joe Cooley’s 1986 track “Everlasting Bass,” which infringes on White’s copyright.

Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar have not been named defendants in the lawsuit.

Barry White Trust seeks damages over $1 million, citing unauthorized reproductions, digital downloads, and streaming revenues.

We reported earlier that Lamar takes a jab at Drake and J. Cole in Future and Metro Boomin’s song, “Like That.”

“Yeah get up with me, f*ck sneak dissing / ‘First Person Shooter,’ I hope they came with three switches,” he raps, later adding, “Motherf*ck the big three, n—a, it’s just big me.”

Elsewhere in the verse, Lamar compares himself to Prince and his relationship to Michael Jackson. “Your best work is a light pack / N—a, Prince outlived Mike Jack / N—a, bum, ‘fore all your dogs get buried / That’s a K with all these nines, he gon’ see Pet Sematary.”

“Like That” topped the charts and fueled a fierce rivalry between Drake and Kendrick.

Uproxx reports that Drake responded to the song Drake in an Instagram post, writing, “They rather go to war with me than admit they are their own worst enemy [crying laughing emoji].”

His dad Dennis Graham also reacted with a sarcastic message, writing, “Yo, I am about to drop some new music. And I am not sure if it’s going to sell, but I am going to call some of my homies and get them to start a beef with Drake and get them to unfollow him, and that’s going make my sh*t shoot up to number 1. I’m sure this is going to work, so let me get some people on board for this and watch what kind of attention this gets!!!!!!!!!!!! I WILL BE NUMBER ONE 1Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
