*In Tulsa (Oklahoma), Eddie Huff, a Black City Council candidate is seeing trouble on the horizon regarding his election campaign. And he only has himself to blame.  Troubling Facebook posts from 2015 have recently resurfaced, casting a shadow over his candidacy just weeks before the election.

Hall’s situation is reminiscent of NC Lt. Governor Mark Robinson’s whose old message on a porn site revealed that he referred to himself as a black Nazi and wished to own slaves.

The Facebook comments from 2015  reveal Huff’s seemingly supportive stance on the Confederate flag and his demeaning comments regarding military personnel captured during the war, have sparked controversy and outrage within the community, The Black Wall Street Times is reporting.

One of the most shocking revelations comes from a conversation Huff engaged in regarding renowned Vietnam War veteran John McCain. Following then-presidential candidate Donald Trump’s dismissal of McCain as a “war hero,” Huff echoed similar sentiments in a July 18, 2015, post.

Huff stated, “McCain is and was not a ‘HERO.’ A real hero saves the day by his actions,” further asserting that individuals in the military who are captured are merely doing their jobs and lack hero status.

This dismissive view of captured soldiers could not be more egregious. Many Americans regard McCain’s sacrifices, including six grueling years as a prisoner of war, as remarkably heroic. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, countless soldiers are still missing from conflicts, and many families continue to hope for a resolution regarding their loved ones. Huff’s comments could be seen as not only disrespectful but potentially harmful to the values and sacrifices that these service members represent.

In addition to his remarks about war heroes, Huff’s posts defending the Confederate flag have drawn sharp criticism. His comments come in the aftermath of the horrific June 17, 2015, shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church where nine Black congregants lost their lives in a racially motivated attack. Following this tragedy, there was a national discourse surrounding the place of the Confederate flag within society.

“You will notice that I have chosen to use the Confederate “Battle Flag” as my cover photo,” Huff wrote. “I do this because when I was a young radical in the late 60s and early 70s, this was not known as the Confederate flag. It was the “Rebel Flag.” Huff continued, saying “I still have that spirit of rebellion in me, but a spirit of rebellion against the spirit and “prince of this world.”

Despite his controversial posts, Huff has reportedly garnered endorsements from far-right groups and prominent Republican officials, raising questions about whether these endorsements reflect shared values. Supporters include U.S. Representative Kevin Hern and Oklahoma Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell, both of whom might be scrutinized for their support of a candidate with such polarizing comments. Huff’s rhetoric also extended to targeting Muslims as the “real enemies” and labeling former President Obama as “an illegal alien,” further inflaming the narrative of intolerance.

As Huff seeks to unseat incumbent Lori Decter-Wright, these resurfaced posts could be decisive in swaying voters who may consider his viewpoints incompatible with the values of the diverse Tulsa community. The spotlight is now on not only Huff but also those who back his candidacy. The upcoming election on Nov. 5 promises to be not just a referendum on policy, but a clearer view of the vision and values that the constituents of Tulsa wish to uphold.
