Blue Ivy is making more big moves.
At only 8 years old, Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s daughter has narrated her first book. On Monday, filmmaker and author Matthew A. Cherry announced that an audiobook adaptation of his Oscar-winning short film Hair Love was available, narrated by none other than Blue.
Released in December 2019, Hair Love follows the story of a father who must do his daughter’s hair for the first time. The six-minute animated short won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at this year’s Oscars.

Cherry said that he and his co-producer, Karen Rupert Toliver, were inspired to create Hair Love to counter stereotypes about Black fathers and to increase representation of Black hair.
Gabrielle Union was among those who celebrated the announcement on social media. “This is the gift that just keeps on giving!! Being able to hear Blue Ivy give voice to this masterful story is so awesome,” tweeted the actress. “They try to bury us, not knowing we are seeds of strength and beauty. LOVE!”
Blue has already accomplished a great deal at a young age. She became the youngest person ever to have a Billboard-charting song with her appearance on JAY-Z’s “Glory” in 2012. Earlier this year, she won her first major award at the 51st NAACP Image Awards and recently took home her first BET Award for “Brown Skin Girl,” a collaboration with her mother.
The audiobook of Hair Love featuring Blue Ivy’s narration of the 4-minute long story is now available on Audible Plus.
