According to reports, Boseman had been battling Stage III colon cancer since 2016. This timing would mean he was well into his four-year fight with the disease during the production of his most famous film, “Black Panther,” which was released in 2018. He also stared in recent action films such as “21 Bridges” (2019) and Spike Lee‘s “Da 5 Bloods” (2020).

The South Carolina native never publically shared his diagnosis, leaving fans completely stunned and struggling to take it all in. Learning of the Howard Alum’s health troubles puts the concerns fans expressed after photos and videos of the actor appearing extremely thin surfaced.

The Image Award winner received the Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture award at the 50th NAACP Image Awards in 2019.

He was also nominated for the evening’s biggest award, Entertainer of the Year. Beyoncé, who ultimately took home the trophy, gave her fellow nominee a heartfelt shoutout during her acceptance speech. “Chadwick Boseman is teaching children to dream and to be seen as kings.”

Boseman, who gave us characters such as Jackie Robinson in “42,” James Brown in “Get on U,” Thurgood Marshall in “Marshall.” and, of course, T’Challa/Black Panther, in “Black Panther,” will always be remembered for his talent and strength. He passed away in his home on August 28 with his wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, and other family memberrs by his side.

Condolences to the family and loved ones of Chadwick Boseman
