NBA player Sterling Brown is finally receiving some justice. The City of Milwaukee approved a $750,000 settlement for Brown who was tased in 2018 by police after double parking. CBS News reports the Common Council unanimously passed the motion 14-0.
On January 26, 2018, Brown was approached by an officer for illegally parking across two handicap spots stationed outside of a local Walgreens. That’s when several more officers arrived on the scene. Brown along with the officers then engaged in a tussle. Footage of the incident showed officers tackle Brown to the ground and tase him. Brown was arrested, however he wasn’t charged. He ended up suing the City of Milwaukee later and stated the officers used excessive force and left him with visible bruises on his face.
At the time of the incident, Brown was playing for the Milwaukee Bucks. Teammates saw him with the bruises that he sustained during the altercation with Milwaukee officers. He currently plays for the Houston Rockets.
Last November, Brown agreed to a settlement, however that settlement wasn’t made public until this week. Along with the settlement, Brown requested the city change policing procedures which includes officers having to report when they withdraw their firearms.
Brown’s attorney Mark Thomsen told CBS Milwaukee affiliate WDJT “at the end of the day, Mr. Brown wanted to implement policy and he did. And rather than holding out for the admission for himself, changing the future for young people, people of color in this city, was crucial.”
