What was supposed to be a special basketball matchup on the day an iconic civil rights leader was to be honored has fallen victim to what has been a season of cancelations.
The scheduled Notre Dame-Howard game on Martin Luther King Jr. Day has been postponed due to COVID-19 safety precautions within the Bison program.
“We are all incredibly disappointed by this cancellation,” said Howard Director of Athletics Kery Davis in a statement. “This was a tremendous opportunity to bring national exposure to our basketball team and the University. However, it goes without saying that the health and welfare of our student-athletes is our priority first and foremost.”

The game, which was slated to be played inside the Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C., is expected to take place in 2022.
Since 2019, Howard has honored Dr. King by hosting other Division 1 programs, including Harvard and Yale in recent seasons.
