Fans of the FX period crime drama Snowfall surely remember the shocking moment in the third season when drug dealer Franklin Saint (Damson Idris) was shot and left for dead by his on/off girlfriend Melody (Reign Edwards). The ordeal would leave Franklin walking with a limp and a cane for the majority of the fourth season.
Last night, fans of Snowfall saw Franklin come full circle in the season finale, when he felt to Texas and finally confronted Melody. In the show’s closing moments, Franklin hung his cane on the back of a chair and walked away.
In an interview with TV Line, show star Damson Idris disclosed his enjoyment at filming season 4’s closing moments, which saw him confront Melody for talking to a reporter.
“That Keyser Soze moment was really special,” Idris said to TVLine. “It was something we had been building up to throughout the season. The biggest thing for viewers was, ‘When are we going to get back to Franklin being well?’”
Idris also disclosed Franklin’s mindset during the season’s gripping finale. “It created a great sense of tension. And Franklin knew that, too,” he said. “To get to that final moment with Melody, it’s almost as if the job was done. And he doesn’t need anyone to see him as being vulnerable anymore. He doesn’t need to be 10 steps ahead anymore. Now he can just focus on the business.”
Idris went on to compare the moment, when he walked off and left his cane, to scoring big at a Lakers basketball scene.
“The fantastic Carl Seaton and everyone was there, and I did it,” Idris continued. “I walked away, and when I came back in the room, it was as if I’d scored 70 points for the Lakers. It was just such a special moment. It verified just how far Franklin has come this season. And with all of the doubt, he was able to come out strong in the end.”
Created by the late, great John Singleton, Snowfall explores the lives of several characters in Los Angeles during the ’80s in the midst of the city’s first crack epidemic. In March, the show was recently renewed for a fifth season by FX.
