*A Washington DC man known as Phillip H. won the Lottery’s Lucky for Life game on August 12, but only recently claimed the million-dollar prize because he couldn’t locate one of his two winning tickets.

According to PEOPLE, Phillip searched for the ticket for a month before he found it, winning $25,000 for life or a lump sum of $500,000.

“After searching through old tickets, I found it and let out a big sigh of relief,” Phillip said, per Lottery USA.

“I always get two tickets, and I always pick my own numbers. That’s my winning strategy,” he explained. “I saw that the first ticket was a winner but couldn’t find the other ticket.”

The winning numbers were 3, 6, 17, 24, and 35, with Lucky Ball 2.

Here’s more from the DC Lottery page: “A relieved Phillip H. returned to the DC Lottery to claim his second of two winning Lucky for Life prizes from the Monday, August 12, 2024, drawing. The Washingtonian with Jamaican roots claimed his first $25,000 A Year for Life prize ($500,000 value) soon after the drawing. At that time, Phillip was mum about his second winning ticket because he couldn’t find it. More than a month later, he’s back with his newfound ticket securely in hand. He described his winning strategy as always selecting his numbers and purchasing two tickets.”

Phillip said he intends to use the money to renovate his home and buy a new truck.
