Jackson State football has been the recipient of acts of philanthropy in recent weeks from high-profile public figures.
Its head coach — arguably the most recognizable of all — decided to provide his own assistance.
Deion Sanders said he will donate half his salary to ensure renovations to the football facility will be completed.
Sanders, who signed a four-year, $1.2 million deal when he was hired in 2020, made the commitment in a video posted on his personal Instagram account.
The third-year coach was advised by his business partner, Constance Schwatz-Morini, to make up the difference by contributing a portion of his salary. Sanders makes $300,000 per year on average, according to his contract.

“We’ve got, what the wiring?” Schwartz-Morini said in the video. “The new rooms, the walls, electronics. Hows our wi-fi? This is your legacy we’re talking about.”
Said Sanders in response: “I’ll put more than that on it. I’ll put half on it to get this done,” Sanders said. “If you don’t believe me, check me. I will send you the receipts.”
The move comes on the heels of Jackson State obtaining financial commitments from Sean “P. Diddy” Combs and rapper Ja Rule.
