Delaware State MEAC Rookie of the Year enters transfer portal

Coming off a transcendent season in which they made it to the MEAC tournament championship game, the Delaware State Hornets men’s basketball team’s fortunes are changing for the worst.

The Hornets have been decimated this offseason by the transfer portal, with their top two scorers, Martaz Robinson and Jevin Muniz, on the way out.

They will now be joined by the team’s third-leading scorer, Delaware State guard Deywilk Tavarez, who has announced he will now enter the transfer portal.

Tavarez is coming off a spectacular freshman season in which he was named MEAC Rookie of the Year. He averaged 13.7 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.0 steals, warranting an All-MEAC third-team selection.

He was crucial in Delaware State’s run to the MEAC championship game, scoring 29 and 20 points in the team’s first two tournament games, respectively.

According to reports, Tavarez is fielding interest from numerous mid-major programs nationally, including North Carolina A&T.
