Dillard wins CGAC championship in first year of program existence

Dillard baseball shocked the GCAC by winning the 2023 GCAC Championship in just the program’s first year of existence.

After losing to No. 1 seed Rust College in the quarterfinal round 10-1, Dillard battled back and won two games in a row to claim the championship.

In the championship round, Tyler Fitch was the hero on offense as he drove in three of the Bleu Devils five runs in a 5-2 win over Rust.

In the winner-take-all second game, Dillard scored five runs in the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie capped off by a Jalen Ayers 3-run inside-the-park home run.

Dylan Scott would also get it done on the mound as he pitched a complete game, only allowing two runs and striking out seven over nine innings to clinch the title.
