Doja Cat has joined the growing list of celebrities who have been diagnosed with coronavirus.
The “Say So” rapper revealed to fans that she tested positive for COVID-19. During an interview with Capital XTRA on Friday, Doja shared that she contracted corona despite previously dismissing the danger of the infectious disease.
“I got COVID. Honestly, I don’t know how this happens but I guess I ordered something off of Postmates,” she said. “I don’t know how I got it but I got it.”
After experiencing symptoms for four days, she said the worst is over. “I’m OK now,” she added. “It was a four-day symptom freak out but I’m fine now.”
Back in March when the pandemic first started to hit the U.S., Doja downplayed the severity and even made light of the virus. “Bitch, I’m not scared of a coronavirus or the motherfu**ing beer version of that shit,” she told fans on Instagram Live. “I’m gonna get corona and then I’m gonna get a Corona, ’cause I don’t give a f**k about corona, bitch. It’s a flu!”
Added Doja, “I’m not scared. Y’all are pussy, period. You just take some Mucinex and drink water and tea and sleep — that’s all you gotta do. Y’all are so scared of some damn corona. Y’all are so scared of corona that I need a Corona.”
It’s been a year of highs and lows for Doja Cat. After earning her first Hot 100 No. 1 with “Say So” in May, she faced backlash over past racist comments she made in online chatrooms. She also recorded a song in 2015 called “Dindu Nuffin,” a racist slur mocking victims of police brutality. She later apologized to fans and addressed the controversy.
“I understand my influence and impact and I’m taking this all very seriously,” she said. “I love you all and I’m sorry for upsetting or hurting any of you. That’s not my character, and I’m determined to show that to everybody moving forward.”
