Dr. Dre is getting back to business.
Just a day after being released from the hospital for a brain aneurysm, the legendary producer returned to the studio. On Saturday (Jan. 16), some of Dre’s collaborators shared a photo of him looking happy and healthy while seated in front of a studio console. He was joined by engineers and producers including The D.O.C. and Focus, who snapped the pic.
One of the producers, Dem Jointz, also hinted at a 2021 revival of Dre’s canceled album Detox. “And We Back!!” he wrote in the caption, adding the hashtag #Detox21.
Dre, who did not post the photo or acknowledge a Detox revival, ultimately scrapped plans for the mythical project and instead released Compton, inspired by 2015’s N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton.
“I had between 20 and 40 songs for Detox, and I just couldn’t feel it,” he told Rolling Stone in a 2015 interview. “Usually I can hear the sequence of an album as I’m going, but I wasn’t able to do that. I wasn’t feeling it in my gut. So I really thought I was done being an artist.”
Dre was discharged from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. on Friday after suffering a brain aneurysm just two weeks earlier. He is recovering at home and will be under the 24/7 care of medical professionals for the next few weeks, according to TMZ.
His family has been given an encouraging update from doctors, who told them that a “bad outcome” is unlikely. Ice-T also said that Dre was “safe and looking good” after their FaceTime call.
Update: Just FaceTimed with @drdre He just made it home. Safe and looking good. ???
