Eddie Murphy says he feels more himself now that he’s older.
The comedian and actor told Oprah Winfrey during an Apple TV+ episode of The Oprah Conversation that he is at peace with himself the older he gets.
“I feel great and optimistic and totally comfortable in Eddie,” he said, according to The Grio. “I was always comfortable in my skin, but not like now.
Murphy turned 60 in April, setting the stage for Winfrey, 67, to give him during the episode advice poet Maya Angelou gave her about getting older.
“When I turned 60, I realized I was more secure in being myself than I’ve ever been,” she said. “Maya Angelou had said to me that your fifties is all that you’ve been meaning to be. I feel that I fulfilled that. Turning 60 was a level of security that’s pretty really solid. I mean, you are definitely in the period of your life where you have either accomplished, or haven’t accomplished, and you can be satisifed or not satisfied.”
Murphy’s movie career has regained a second wind with Netflix’s Dolemite Is My Name and the recent Amazon Prime film Coming 2 America. The latter saw Murphy reprise his role as Prince Akeem and followed his time as King of Zamunda, rediscovering a lost son in America.
