Experts Warn Against Using Cell Phones in Bed Due to Bacteria Levels | Video

*Experts are cautioning against using mobile phones in bed due to the alarming amount of bacteria they can carry.

While many are aware that excessive screen time affects sleep quality, few realize the hygiene risks associated with keeping phones in bed. Per Indy100.com, a YouGov survey found that 74% of participants in Britain keep their phones in the bedroom, meaning millions unknowingly introduce bacteria into their sleep environment.

Phones, which are touched over 2,600 times daily, collect more germs than a toilet seat, and a MattressNextDay survey revealed that 51% of people never clean their phones. One common bacteria found on phones is Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which poses a risk to those with weakened immune systems.

This bacteria is also found in cockroach feces, meaning our devices could transfer harmful bacteria to our hands and faces. Sleeping with phones in warm bed environments encourages bacteria to multiply.

To mitigate this, experts suggest regularly cleaning phones with UV sanitizers or alcohol wipes safe for electronics.

Additionally, washing pillowcases twice a week and regularly laundering bedding can help reduce bacterial buildup.

Martin Sealey, CEO of MattressNextDay, said: “Remember, your bed should be a sanctuary for rest, not a petri dish for potentially harmful bacteria.”
