Former Howard QB Caylin Newton transfers to Auburn

Former Howard quarterback Caylin Newton has found a familiar home to resume his college football career.

Newton will follow in his older brother’s footsteps, Cam Newton, and transfer to Auburn.

Newton made the announcement official on Twitter late Friday.

Newton, who entered the transfer portal in October, is a preferred walk-on at Auburn and will be immediately eligible to play as a graduate transfer.

A three-year starter at Howard, Newton appeared in four games in 2019, passing for 815 yards and six touchdowns before declaring he would transfer during what was a tumultuous time within the football program.

Newton was named 2018 MEAC Offensive Player of the Year and was an FCS All-American following his sophomore season.
