While the MEAC/SWAC Challenge is back this year after a pandemic-related hiatus, future matchups are also on the horizon.
Executive Director Cricket Celebration Bowl and Cricket MEAC/SWAC Challenge Kickoff John T. Grant announced on Thursday future matchups of the annual HBCU football season opener.
During an appearance on The Black College Experience, Grant revealed the next three iterations of the game.
In 2022, Howard is scheduled to square off against Alabama State. The 2023 challenge features Jackson State meeting South Carolina State. In 2024, Norfolk State plays Florida A&M.

Even though matchups beyond that have yet to be announced, Gant said that Southern had committed to play in the 2025 MEAC/SWAC Challenge.
“That’s what the season is going to look like up through 2025,” he said. “I’m really excited about 2026. “If you think Week 0 is hot this year, we’re just turning the heat up a little bit.”
The upcoming MEAC/SWAC Challenge will feature Alcorn State and North Carolina Central on Aug. 28. It will be televised at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
The MEAC leads the all-time series over the SWAC 10-4.
