The Hallmark Channel has made LGBTQ history with its popular series, Good Witch.
The kiss happened between characters Joy (Kat Barrell) and Zoey (Kyana Teresa) during Good Witch‘s season finale. The moment marks the first time two same-sex characters have kissed on a Hallmark Channel original series.
Teresa wrote about the landmark moment on Instagram.
“If you’re not making history, you’re not doing it right,” she wrote. “Thank you to everyone [who] helped this story become a reality and to everyone who rallied for it until th every end and beyond. It means more to me than you’ll ever know.”
The moment was propelled not only by Good Witch fans, but also by fans of Barrell’s former show Wynonna Earp, which featured LGBTQ themes and characters. Many fans used social media to show their appreciation for the inclusive storyline.

As someone who grew up with family that would watch Hallmark, I never felt welcome in those cute wholesome towns because there were never any characters like me. No love stories like mine. No feelings of comfort and openness.

While the kiss is a first for the channel’s television series lineup, it’s not the first time LGBTQ couples have existed on the Hallmark Channel proper. According to TVLine, the network’s first married same-sex couple, played by Jonathan Bennett and Brad Harder, appeared in 2020 original movie The Christmas House. The two kissed, a first for Hallmark channel’s original movies.
