Grambling eliminates rival Southern in overtime thriller to advance to SWAC tourney semifinal

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 4 seed Grambling State trailed by two points with less than 10 seconds remaining before senior Terreon Randolph stole an inbounds pass and quickly dished it to teammate Cameron Christon for the game-tying basket to force overtime as the Tigers eliminated No. 5 Southern 72-67 in a quarterfinal round of the SWAC Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Bartow Arena.

Christon, a second-team All-SWAC men’s basketball honoree, finished with game-high 26 points added eight boards, three blocks, and two assists in the victory while Randolph produced a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for Grambling. He also added five steals, three assists, and two blocks while connecting on 6-of-7 shots from the field.

As a team, the Tigers outscored the Jags 36-24 in the paint and finished with 18 second-chance points to just 11 for Southern.

Sophomore guard Tra’Michael Moton had a solid output with 14 points, four boards, three steals, one assist, and buried 7-of-8 from the charity stripe while senior Prince Moss chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds before fouling out.

Harrison Henderson led Southern with 20 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

Grambling State will advance to the semifinals and take on No. 1 Prairie View A&M on March 12 at the Bartow Arena. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m CST.
